The city of Las Cruces, New Mexico is a great place to relocate or retire.  Year after year, Las Cruces is awarded top rankings as a great place to live, work and play.

There are many exceptional communities in Las Cruces.  I am admittedly a little biased, but I believe that Picacho Mountain and the greater Picacho Hills area are the best place in Las Cruces to find your next custom home.

Located at the base of Picacho Peak, the Picacho Hills area in Las Cruces is a hidden treasure.  Even many lifelong Las Cruces residents aren’t familiar with all that Picacho Hills and Picacho Mountain have to offer.  In this post I am going to tell you a little bit about Picacho Hills and Picacho Mountain.  Please contact us at 575-523-2500 if you would like to schedule a personal tour of the area.

Picacho Hills

Despite the fact that many people are not familiar with Picacho Hills, the community was established over 30 years ago.  The community was originally began with the home built around the Picacho Hills Country Club.  Picacho Hills has steadily grown over the last three decades to include more than 800 homes divided up into many smaller neighborhoods including, “Old Picacho Hills”, Fairway Village, Coronado Ridge, Butterfield Ridge, Fairway 18 and other areas.

My wife and I were introduced to Picacho Hills in 2005 when we first had the opportunity to work on the master plan for a new 800 acre neighborhood located on the northwest edge of existing Picacho Hills area. That new area is what is known today as Picacho Mountain.

Picacho Mountain

While Picacho Mountain is located adjacent to Picacho Hills, it is an entirely separate community. Picacho Mountain offers many benefits and amenities in addition to the amenities offered by the Picacho Hills area as a whole.

Classic NM Homes Picacho Peak

It was clear to us from our very first visit why the Picacho Hills area is such an ideal place to live.  Here are some of the great reasons to visit Picacho Hills when you are looking for your next Las Cruces custom home:

  • Picacho Hills Country Club: The Picacho Hills Country Club (PHCC) is the premier country club in Las Cruces, NM.  The 6880 yard, par 72 golf course at Picacho Hills is favorite amount Las Cruces golfers.  With the excellent maintenance and expert staff, Picacho Hills is sure to impress. PHCC also features gourmet dining, tennis, special events, pool facilities and much more.
  • Seclusion: More than any other area in Las Cruces, Picacho Hills offers the perfect blend of community, convenience and seclusion.  Unlike many other neighborhoods, Picacho Hills does not suffer from congestion or traffic problems.  It is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but is still conveniently just a 5 to 10 minutes drive from shopping, dining, downtown, and other Las Cruces attractions.
  • The Homes: The Picacho Hills area is the longest established area of upscale homes in Las Cruces.  The best custom home builders in Las Cruces are building homes in the Picacho Hills area.
  • Lower Tax Rates: Because Picacho Hills is located outside city limits, residents pay a lower tax rate.  For more information about property tax rates in Dona Ana County check out this post.
