There’s a new hub in Las Cruces—the Downtown Plaza de Las Cruces!
With a bustling downtown revitalization project in full swing, Downtown Las Cruces’ new plaza is attracting singles, families, and retirees alike.
“There’s something for everyone. It’s really bringing the neighborhood together,” says Russ Smith, chairman of Project Main Street. The plaza includes a state-of-the-art concert and performance stage, picnic areas, beautiful stone mosaic work, and a whimsical splash pad!

Memories await you at the new downtown splash pad
Follow the carefree sound of laughter to the new splash pad, which has already delighted hundreds in the weeks following its grand opening.
“The splash pad is an automatic success. Kids and families are there every day. Evenings with the beautiful water colors have become a neighborhood gathering place,” says Russ.
A colorful menagerie of prehistoric and modern creatures adorn the textured concrete, setting the scene for your little creatures to race, chop, and chase the pad’s playfully choreographed dancing water plumes.
“I like it best when the big geyser shoots in the middle!” says Ransom Butler, 5, before he jumps back into the splash-action. Ransom and his family spend most Saturday mornings just a few feet away, at the Las Cruces Farmers and Crafts Market. He’s been observing the construction process and eagerly awaiting his day in the sun (and more importantly—the water!).

Las Cruces’ Main Street revitalization efforts have attracted national attention, but the real success is measured by the explosion of local excitement and involvement for Downtown.
“A couple of years ago the downtown Las Cruces scene was rather vacant—especially measured by permits for special events. Now the permitting office is busy, dates are taken, and planning future events requires long lead times to grab up dates. It is quite different now. The plaza is buzzing!” says Russ.
