2016 holiday celebrations in Las Cruces and Mesilla
- December 3: The lighting of the city’s Christmas tree. Celebrate a new holiday tradition with us on the new Plaza de Las Cruces. We’ll kick off the party with live holiday tunes by UnLyshed at 5pm. The entertainment will continue as Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima lights the Christmas tree at 6:30pm. Be sure to come hungry — Las Cruces’s famously delicious food trucks will be dishing up hot grub. Take some time to walk around and enjoy the new plaza, where carolers and kid-friendly activities will add to the warm family ambience.
- December 4: Noche de Luminarias. See the beautiful NMSU campus aglow with thousands of traditional paper luminarias from 6pm-9pm at the 32nd annual “Night of Lights.” In contrast to some of the jolly plaza festivals, this uniquely tranquil festival is known for being a little quieter — perfect for a serene evening stroll. Take in the sights on a horse drawn carriage, or grab a cup of hot cocoa and meander along the paths surrounding Corbett Center Student Union. Bring along the kids or grandkids and create some memories (and photos!) with Santa.
- December 24: Christmas carols and luminarias at the plaza in Old Mesilla. Soak in the tradition and history of the town of Mesilla as they host the annual Luminarias and Christmas Carols festival on the Plaza from 5:30pm-7:30pm.
