I wrote yesterday in this post about For the Love of Art and the event coming up on February 6th for the Artists of Picacho Hills. Today I’d like to tell you about a few events coming up in Las Cruces, NM geared more toward music lovers.
There are three great events coming up for music fans:
- LCCCA Presents Afiara String Quartet at the Rio Grande Theatre January 30th from 3 pm to 5 pm: The Afiara Strong Quartet takes its name from the Spanish word fiar, meaning “to trust.” This amazing viola, cello and two violin quartet gives every piece they play a unique blend of energy, style and pizzazz. This all-Canadian group was named The Juilliard School’s new graduate resident string quartet and won the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in New York. The Quartet couples Haydn and hip-hop, complete with a rapping cellist, often to the glee of students and enthusiastic amusement of adults.
- Jam Sessions in Las Cruces: Jam Session in Las Cruces, a two-month long series focused on the art and culture of Jazz, concludes with two final events February 2nd and 3rd. Click here for more information on these Las Cruces Jazz two events.
- Las Cruces Symphony Classics Four Concert February 5 & 6: I will be posting more about this event early next week but here is a preview. The Las Cruces Symphony presents its fourth Classics concert of the season on February 5th and 6th in Atkinson Recital Hall at the NMSU Music Center. The Classics Four cycle will feature mezzo soprano, Maria Elena Armijo, and the Prentice Loftin Chorale in Saint-Saëns’ “Mon coeur s’ouvre a ta voix” from Samson and Delilah, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances and Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky. The program also includes the Overture to William Tell by Rossini.
