Las Cruces Farmers MarketOne of the things that my wife Karen and I enjoy doing on Saturday mornings in Las Cruces is to visit the Las Cruces Farmers’ Market.  The market recently moved from an older part of the downtown Las Cruces main street to the newly renovated portion.  Since we hadn’t been in a while, we decided to go down this past weekend and check it out.

Some vendors were concerned that the move would be detrimental to the market, but from what we saw the Las Cruces Farmers’ Market is better than ever.

Las Cruces Farmers Market booths

If you’ve been to other farmers’ markets you might arrive expecting a few tables of fruits and vegetables but the Las Cruces Farmers’ market is so much more.  Jewelry, art, photography, hand-made crafts, live music, herbs, local produce, baked goods, tasty treats, and so much more!

The Las Cruces Farmers’ Market is a popular destination for locals and tourists, and it’s easy to see why.  It’s a perfect place to get a taste (both figurative and literal) of the local Las Cruces culture.  If it is food your looking for, you don’t want to miss sampling the local salsas, fresh baked tortillas, local honey, or freshly popped kettle corn.  Those are a few of my favorites.

My wife is more interested in the great shopping than eating at the market.  Local artisans display some of the most amazing hand-made jewelry you’ll find.  Even one of our own Picacho Mountain residents, Nancy Broekhoff, has a booth every week at the market.

Las Cruces Farmers MarketThe Las Cruces Farmers’ Market is also a great destination if you’re looking for organic or natural products.  Vendors offers all-natural, hand-made soaps, herbal teas, natural remedies and more.  Plus, many of Las Cruces’s organic farmers are there with locally grown, organic produce.

Once you’ve had your fill of food and shopping, there is always the entertainment to enjoy.  A variety of local musicians show up every week to provide entertainment for shoppers.  This week I especially enjoyed the mariachis.

All that and more is what makes the Las Cruces Farmers’ Market one of my favorite things to do on Saturday mornings.  Check it out next Wednesday or Saturday:
