The Las Cruces Community Theatre is offering theatre goers something new for the holiday season.  Greetings by Tom Dudzick has plenty of the usual elements we might expect in a Christmas themed play.  There is a grumpy old man, a lovable handicapped character, a struggle of beliefs, and among the usual Christmas trappings (tree, trains, trimmings and turkey) there is even a spirit who supplies a miracle.  All familiar, but this is clearly not A Christmas Carol or any of its variations.

The play opens on an airplane bound from New York City to Pittsburgh, PA.  Aboard are Andy Gorski (Bob Singer) and Randi Stein (Indrani Rauth).  They are traveling to Andy’s home to spend the Christmas holiday.  Pretty standard stuff except that Andy is a catholic from a very catholic home and Randi is not only Jewish, but an atheist as well, and Andy’s folks are unaware of Randi’s beliefs or that the couple are engaged.

Waiting for them are dad Phil (Ken Eastlack), mom Emily (Robin Dorfman) and a younger retarded son Mickey (Stephen Caroe).  Dad Phil is a disgruntled ex ballplayer who doesn’t have anything good to say about anything or anybody except Mickey, who he openly loves and cares for.  Mom Emily is a long suffering soul who has learned to deal with Phil’s grumblings but yearns for the tenderer Phil she married.

This sets the stage for what Andy considers a disaster in the making, and once the couple arrives it appears that he is correct.  However, as promised, a miracle in the form of a spirit visits the disparate gathering and … well, its Christmas.  Come see what happens.

The play is Directed by Ken Eastlack; amply aided by Asst. Director Karen Caroe.  Opening Night Gala with post performance drinks and buffet is Friday December 3rd at 8:00 pm.  Regular performances will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings Dec. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 & 18 at 8:00 pm and Sunday matinees Dec 5, 12, & 19 at 2:00 pm.  Visit the LCCT web site for more information.
